Wicked Games has created a new slot machine about hamsters taking over the underground scene of Amsterdam. But here’s the catch: almost everything fun about this game is locked behind glass you have to break.
Coming out on September 17, 2026, the main game is honestly pretty basic. However, all the real design effort went into the “Upstairs Bonus” round, a tense, exciting feature where you spend your spins literally smashing your way to the payouts.
Here is how the game breaks down.
A Very Basic Main Game
Let’s be honest: the main game has zero special features. It runs at an RTP of 96.1% on a 5×4 grid, you get 20 standard paylines, and that’s it. The symbols are a bit cheeky, think wind-up toys, bongs, space cakes, and condoms, but they all pay out basically the same low amounts.
The weirdest part? The “Wild” symbol (a neon sign) pays out way more than any regular symbol. Usually, you want to line up matching pictures, but here, the biggest wins happen just by landing Wilds.

If you manage to land exactly two “Scatter” symbols, they turn into Wilds, lock in place, and give you a free re-spin. But other than that, you’re mostly just spinning and waiting for the bonus round.
The Upstairs Bonus: Breaking the Glass
If you land three or more scatters, you finally enter the Upstairs Bonus, and the game completely changes. The board gets bigger, and all the regular symbols disappear. Now, you’ll only see Nuts (which are worth cash), Keys (which give extra spins), and Hammers.
Here’s the twist: most of the board is covered in panes of glass.

If a cash-value Nut lands under the glass, it sticks there, but you can’t actually collect the money until you break the glass above it. Hammers smash the glass, and Keys give you more time to do it. At the very end of your spins, the game does one big “sweep,” collecting all the Nuts on unbroken (open) spaces and paying you out all at once. It creates an awesome buildup of tension. The ceiling on all of it is 10,000x your bet, and it is a hard stop rather than a headline figure: hit it and the round ends there and then, forfeiting whatever spins were left.
The Hamster Crew
During the bonus, up to three hamster characters can appear in doorways next to the board. There are five hamsters in total, and they act like a little heist crew, always doing their jobs in a specific order:

- The Madam breaks the glass.
- The Stripper adds new symbols to the board.
- The Pimp multiplies the value of your Nuts.
- The Dealer glues Nuts in place so they can be cashed out multiple times.
- The Cashier collects the open Nuts and pays them out mid-round.
It’s a clever system. You open the board, fill it, multiply the cash, lock it in, and collect.

Testing the Bonus Buy
We decided to test the game by paying €145 to skip straight to the bonus round (playing at a €1 bet). We got 8 spins, plus one extra from a Key, and ended up walking away with €46.
Most of our winnings came at the very end during that final sweep of the board. However, it was a bit heartbreaking to watch: the most valuable Nut we landed got trapped under unbroken glass, meaning we didn’t get paid for it. In fact, half the potential money we generated in the round was left sitting trapped. It goes to show that while the bonus is fun, unlocking the massive payouts is going to be tough.
Buying Your Way In
If you don’t want to wait around in the boring main game, you can pay to speed things up. You can pay double your bet to increase your chances of hitting the bonus, or pay 10x your bet to guarantee a re-spin.
You can also pay 145x your bet to skip straight to the bonus round. Interestingly, doing this actually improves the game’s payout rate (RTP) very slightly, bumping it from 96.1% to 96.24%. Usually, slot games penalize your odds for buying the bonus, so this is a really nice, rare touch.
Stoner Humor and Neon Streets
Visually, this game has a split personality. The main game takes place in a stoner hamster’s messy room, complete with a hamster passed out on the couch doing absolutely nothing to help you. But trigger the bonus, and you’re transported out to a cool, neon-lit red-brick street by an Amsterdam canal.
The art style looks like an underground adult comic book. The humor is definitely strictly for adults, and while it might get a bit loud after twenty minutes of playing, it has a ton of unique personality, which is more than most slot games can say.
The Final Verdict
Hamsterdam is a game of two halves. The main game is incredibly dull, just a waiting room where nothing exciting happens.
But the Upstairs Bonus is genuinely fantastic game design. The pressure of trying to smash the glass before your spins run out, combined with the crew of hamsters doing their jobs, makes for an exciting climax where everything cashes out in one big sweep at the end.

If you have the patience (or the budget to buy straight into the bonus), it’s a highly unique ride. Just be prepared for the heartbreak of watching some of your biggest prizes stay trapped behind the glass!
